Scientific Achievement Awards Committees

Scientific Achievement Awards Committees serve in the significant role of selecting recipients of the prizes, awards and lectureships that are listed for each committee. 
 

The AACR Award for Lifetime Achievement in Cancer Research Committee oversees the selection of the recipient for the prestigious AACR Award for Lifetime Achievement in Cancer Research to honor an individual who has made significant fundamental contributions to cancer research, either through an extraordinary single scientific discovery or an important body of work performed during his or her career in the cancer field.



The AACR Award for Outstanding Achievement in Chemistry in Cancer Research Committee oversees the selection of the recipient for the AACR-CICR Award for Outstanding Achievement in Chemistry in Cancer Research to recognize outstanding, novel and significant chemistry research which has led to important contributions to the fields of basic cancer research, translational cancer research, cancer diagnosis, the prevention of cancer, or the treatment of patients with cancer.



The AACR Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Awards Committee oversees the selection of recipients for the following awards:

  • The AACR-American Cancer Society Award for Research Excellence in Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention honors outstanding research accomplishments in the fields of epidemiology, biomarkers and prevention.

  • The AACR Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cancer Prevention Research recognizes seminal contributions to the field of cancer prevention.



The AACR-Cancer Research Institute Lloyd J. Old Award in Cancer Immunology Committee oversees the selection of the recipient for the Lloyd J. Old Award which recognizes an active cancer immunologist who has done outstanding and innovative research in cancer immunology that has had a far-reaching impact on the field.



The AACR Clinical Research and Experimental Therapeutics Awards Committee oversees the selection of recipients for the following awards:

  • The AACR-Joseph H. Burchenal Clinical Research Award recognizes outstanding achievements in clinical cancer research.

  • The AACR-Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation Award honors and provides incentive to investigators relatively early in their careers (not more than 50 years of age) who are engaged in the practice of medicine, for research that has made or gives promise of soon making a notable contribution to improved clinical care in the field of cancer.



The AACR Distinguished Lectureship on the Science of Cancer Health Disparities Committee, funded by Susan G. Komen®, recognizes an investigator whose novel and significant work has had or may have a far-reaching impact on the etiology, detection, diagnosis, treatment or prevention of cancer health disparities.



The AACR Laboratory Research Awards Committee oversees the selection of recipients for the following awards:

  • The AACR Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cancer Research gives recognition to a young investigator (not more than 40 years of age) on the basis of meritorious achievement in cancer research.

  • The AACR-G.H.A. Clowes Memorial Award recognizes outstanding recent accomplishments in basic cancer research.



The AACR Margaret Foti Award for Leadership and Extraordinary Achievements in Cancer Research Committee oversees the selection of the recipient for the prestigious AACR Margaret Foti Award to honor an individual for leadership and extraordinary achievement in cancer research.



The AACR-Minorities in Cancer Research Jane Cooke Wright Memorial Lectureship Committee oversees the selection of the recipient for the AACR-MICR Jane Cooke Wright Memorial Lectureship to recognize an outstanding scientist who has made meritorious contributions to the field of cancer research and who has, through leadership or by example, furthered the advancement of minority investigators in cancer research.



The AACR Outstanding Investigator Award for Breast Cancer Research Committee, funded by Susan G. Komen® oversees the nomination of candidates and selection of recipients for the Susan G. Komen-AACR Outstanding Investigator Award for Breast Cancer Research which recognizes an investigator whose novel and significant work has had or may have a far-reaching impact on the etiology, detection, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of breast cancer.  


 

The AACR-Princess Takamatsu Memorial Lectureship Committee oversees the selection of the recipient for the prestigious AACR-Princess Takamatsu Memorial Lectureship to recognize an individual scientist whose novel and significant work has had or may have a far-reaching impact on the detection, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer, and who embodies the dedication of the Princess to multinational collaborations.  


 

The AACR Team Science Award Committee oversees the selection of recipients for the AACR Team Science Award to acknowledge and catalyze the growing importance of interdisciplinary teams to the understanding of cancer and/or the translation of research discoveries into clinical cancer applications.



The AACR-Women in Cancer Research Charlotte Friend Memorial Lectureship Committee oversees the selection of recipients for the AACR-WICR Charlotte Friend Memorial Lectureship to recognize an outstanding scientist who has made meritorious contributions to the field of cancer research and who has, through leadership or by example, furthered the advancement of women in science.



The Pezcoller Foundation-AACR International Award for Cancer Research Committee oversees the selection of the recipient for the prestigious Pezcoller Foundation-AACR International Award for Cancer Research to recognize a scientist of international renown who has made a major scientific discovery in basic cancer research or who has made significant contributions to translational cancer research.
