Key stakeholders partner to build support for cancer research
On May 8, 2014, the AACR will once again partner with the Association of American Cancer Institutes (AACI), Friends of Cancer Research (Friends) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), to build congressional support for cancer research and biomedical science.
In past years, this joint Hill Day has brought together researchers, oncologists and other advocates to Capitol Hill to participate in more than 140 congressional meetings, including meetings with key House and Senate leadership. Attendees called on lawmakers to support a strong investment for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in order to continue the progress in the fight against cancer.
In addition, an annual reception is held on Capitol Hill the evening before the Hill Day to honor champions of cancer research and biomedical science. Past recipients of these special awards include Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), Representative Diana DeGette (D-CO) and Representative Ed Markey (D-MA).
