Stefan Sleijfer, MD, PhD

Stefan Sleijfer obtained his medical degree in 1996 and his PhD in 1997 from the State University of Groningen in the Netherlands. Following his residency in Internal Medicine from 1998 to 2004, including a two year (2002-2004) residency in Medical Oncology, at Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, he became a staff member in the Department of Medical Oncology in Erasmus Medical Center Cancer Institute. In 2011 he became a Full Professor in Translational Medical Oncology in the same institute and, in 2014, became Head of the Department of Medical Oncology.
Stefan Sleijfer is board member of the Erasmus Trustfonds and a former chairman of the Translational Research Advisory Committee of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). He is a member of the Scientific Council of the Dutch Cancer Society (Koningin Wilhelmina Fonds, KWF). Together with Dr. John Foekens, he coordinates the research program in "Translational Cancer Genomics and Proteomics" at the Erasmus Medical Center Cancer Institute. His main research activities focus on soft tissue sarcomas, and prognostic and predictive markers, in particular circulating endothelial cells and circulating tumor cells. His publications include more than 150 papers.
