National Cancer Research Month
About National Cancer Research Month
The AACR acknowledges May as National Cancer Research Month, declared by the U.S. Congress in 2007, 2011, and 2014, in recognition of high-quality, innovative cancer research.
How You Can Help
Call on Congress to make cancer research a top national priority
Federal funding for medical research continues to decline, threatening the future health of Americans. This is an important time to educate lawmakers about the importance of robust investment in the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health. Take action now!
Learn how you can take action on behalf of the AACR.
Donate to the AACR Foundation
The foundation accelerates progress in the conquest of cancer by providing financial support for cancer research that has the highest potential for impact. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) endorses the American Association for Cancer Research as a BBB Wise Giving Alliance charity.

The AACR secured resolutions from the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives in 2007 to raise awareness of the critical advances in cancer research made by its 35,000 members and cancer researchers worldwide. A new resolution* was introduced in 2011.
On May 21, 2014, the Senate passed Senate Resolution 445*, recognizing May as National Cancer Research Month, by unanimous consent. Joining Senators Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., as official cosponsors on the resolution were Senators Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio; Susan Collins, R-Maine; Chris Coons, D-Del.; Dick Durbin, D-Ill.; Angus King, I-Maine; Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.; Jerry Moran R-Kan.; and Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii. Shortly thereafter, the AACR led a community letter* urging House and Senate leaders to support cancer research funding.
These resolutions support the AACR's efforts to facilitate progress and speed translation of new scientific discoveries for the benefit of cancer patients and the 14.5 million cancer survivors living in America today.
