Senior Administrative Coordinator, Communications and Public Relations

Reports to:  Senior Director of Communications and Public Relations
Department:  Communications and Public Relations  
Employment Status:  Full-time/ Exempt 

Position Description and Responsibilities

  • Acts as the communication and public relations department’s key administrator and project manager;
  • Supports the department with all its projects and activities at AACR’s major meetings and conferences;
  • Writes, edits and proofreads copy for a variety of AACR’s communication projects;
  • Works closely with the social media team for AACR and the staff of Cancer Today to assist with content postings and marketing of pages;
  • Functions as the key liaison to the senior director, and directors in providing executive-level support in the management and execution of the department’s major initiatives;
  • Ensures department’s intranet page is current and up-to-date;
  • Assists the coordinator with distribution of media kits and related materials to registered media representatives, spokespersons and press briefing panelists;
  • Coordinates the research and drafting of press releases, media advisories and other press materials;
  • Manages and reviews vendor contracts for the department;
  • Assumes duties and responsibilities as needed to support the communications, public relations and media relations activities of the department; and
  • Ability to perform all essential duties and responsibilities associated with the position of the senior administrative coordinator.

Position Requirements

  • BA or BS degree;
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field a plus;
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a communications, media and/or public relations setting;
  • Knowledge of media and communications strategies;
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills;
  • Strong administrative, and project management skills;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Superior multi-tasking skills;
  • Ability to travel to AACR’s annual meeting, conferences and workshops, as needed;
  • Experience in managing large amounts of data via a database management web-based tool;
  • Proficiency in data management and reporting;
  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Proficiency in using a media tracking service a plus;
  • Knowledge and active in social media; and
  • Conceptual knowledge of the media relations and public relations disciplines.
