Applications are open for 2014-2017 MICR Council Positions
Application deadline: Friday, October 25, 2013
The Minorities in Cancer Research Council (MICR) of the AACR seeks applications for three leadership positions on the MICR Council; each new member will be elected to the council for a three-year term (2014-2017). Serving on the MICR Council affords you an opportunity to assist with planning programs and services that contribute to fostering career development and recognizing the achievements of minorities in cancer research. Examples of MICR programs include the MICR Professional Advancement Session; MICR Scientific Symposium, MICR Forum, AACR Minority-Serving Institution Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research Award, AACR Minority Scholar Award; and the Annual AACR-MICR Jane Cooke Wright Lectureship.
MICR has embarked on an ambitious program this year and would like to include you in our efforts to increase the recognition of our minority scientists within AACR and to promote cancer health disparities research.
MICR members who are active, emeritus, and honorary members of AACR are eligible to apply. There are no country or residency restrictions. We encourage MICR members of any ethnicity or nationality; from industry, government, and academia; and from any country, to consider this opportunity to positively affect AACR's relationship with minority scientists in cancer research.
Individuals selected for council positions must attend the AACR Annual Meetings in 2014, 2015, and 2016 (at their own expense) and participate fully in the programs of MICR during the meetings and throughout the term of service.
If you are interested in serving on the council, please submit the following information:
- Curriculum vitae with publications history; and
- Official application form. The application will include a summary of your research interests/expertise; description of your past and current activities in support of minorities in cancer research; and a candidate statement describing why you wish to serve on the MICR Council, how you will make an impact on the programs of MICR and the AACR, and what you will do to improve the status of minorities in cancer research or cancer health disparities.

The MICR Council will review all applicants submitted by the MICR membership-at-large as well as those recommended by MICR Council members. A vote will be held among the MICR Council members to select three individuals to be invited to serve on the MICR Council for the 2014-2017 term. We regret that not all applicants can receive a spot on the council this term, but applications will be kept on file and receive consideration for three years.
