Applications are open for 2014-2017 WICR Council Positions
Application deadline: Friday, October 25, 2013
The Women in Cancer Research Council (WICR) of the AACR seeks applications for three leadership positions on the WICR Council; each new member will be elected to the council for a three-year term (2014-2017). Serving on the WICR Council affords you an opportunity to assist with planning programs and services that contribute to fostering career development and recognizing the achievements of women in cancer research. Examples of WICR programs include the WICR Professional Advancement Session; WICR Career Mentoring Session (formerly the Leila Diamond Networking Breakfast); AACR-WICR Scholar Awards; and the Annual AACR-WICR Charlotte Friend Memorial Lectureship.
WICR has embarked on an ambitious program this year and would like to include you in our efforts to increase the recognition of our women scientists within AACR and to promote women to leadership positions in cancer research and medicine.
WICR members who are active, emeritus, and honorary members of AACR are eligible to apply. There are no country or residency restrictions. We encourage WICR members of any ethnicity or nationality; from industry, government, and academia; and from any country, to consider this opportunity to positively affect AACR's relationship with women scientists in cancer research.
Individuals selected for council position must attend the AACR Annual Meetings in 2014, 2015 and 2016 (at their own expense) and participate fully in the programs of WICR during the meetings and throughout the term of service.
If you are interested in serving on the council, please submit the following information:
- Curriculum vitae with publications history; and
- Official application form. The application will include a summary of your research interests/expertise; description of your past and current activities in support of women in cancer research; and a candidate statement describing why you wish to serve on the WICR Council, how you will make an impact on the programs of WICR and the AACR, and what you will do to improve the status of women in cancer research in general.

The WICR Council will review all applicants submitted by the WICR membership-at-large as well as those recommended by WICR Council members. A vote will be held among the WICR Council members to select three individuals to be invited to serve on the WICR Council for the 2014-2017 term. We regret that not all applicants can receive a spot on the Council this term, but applications will be kept on file and receive consideration for three years.
