American Association for Cancer Research

WICR Giving Opportunities

Women in Cancer Research (WICR) is dedicated to the professional advancement of women in all areas of cancer research. Despite the current increase in women entering doctoral programs, the number of women with careers in the areas of biomedical or cancer research is very limited. As part of its mission, WICR is dedicated to establishing support that will result in an increase in the number of women occupying senior research and academia positions in the cancer research field.

Currently WICR sponsors several events during the Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research.  These programs include:

  • the highly attended Networking Roundtable and Reception Breakfast
  • Leadership Development Series
  • Charlotte Friend Memorial Lecture which is given to recognize an individual for meritorious contribution to the field of cancer research

In addition, WICR sponsors the AACR-WICR Brigid G. Leventhal Scholar Awards Program, which supports conference participation for WICR members who are scientists in training.

As the needs of women scientists differ from those of their male counterparts, i.e. family obligations, the lack of mentor relationships, inflexible guidelines for promotion, and etc., the WICR Council is currently seeking support for new programs designed to meet the changing needs of its members and requests your support in the development of new programs and the maintenance of its current awards and activities.

If you would like to contribute funds to support WICR and its activities, please send an e-mail to wicr@aacr.org.

Thank you for your support of WICR.
