The Fifth AACR Conference on The Science of Cancer Health Disparities gathered hundreds to discuss the latest in genetic risk factors, socioeconomic challenges and communication issues that disproportionately affect minority populations.
Opening Plenary Session
Howard Koh, M.D., M.P.H., assistant secretary for health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, delivered the keynote address during the opening plenary session on Saturday, Oct. 27.
Dr. Koh's keynote address was followed by the 2012 AACR Distinguished Lecture on The Science of Cancer Health Disparities, funded by Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. The lecture was delivered by Claudia R. Baquet, M.D., M.P.H., associate dean for policy and planning, professor of medicine and director of the National Bioethics and Health Disparities Research Center at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
