PRESIDENT PROPOSES TO FLAT FUND NIH
Budget proposal launches Congress into months of debate over FY2013 spending priorities
Last week President Obama released a fiscal year 2013 budget proposal that would freeze funding for NIH at its current FY2012 level of $30.7 billion.
This is the first time the administration’s budget proposal has not included an increase in funds for the agency. And while this number is only a starting point that Congress will consider as it enters into months of debate, it signals an uphill battle for the research community’s effort to secure a vitally needed funding increase for NIH.
