Through the generosity of its supporters and grants from the National Cancer Institute, the AACR is pleased to provide financial support to meritorious early-career scientists traveling from around the world and to members of minority groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in cancer and biomedical research and residing in the United States or Canada to assist them in attending the AACR Annual Meeting. Approximately 200 awards are available to first authors and presenters of meritorious abstracts through the support of various foundations and corporations.

These Awards are presented to promising young cancer researchers who are the first authors and presenters of meritorious proffered papers related to clinical research. These Awards provide support to be spent over two years for the Scholars’ attendance at the 2010 AACR Annual Meeting and future AACR meetings and conferences.

The purposes of this award program are to increase the scientific knowledge base of faculty members at Minority-Serving Institutions, to encourage them in their research, and to assist in inspiring their students to pursue careers in cancer research.

AACR Minority Scholar in Cancer Research Awards are intended to enhance the education and training of minority researchers and increase the visibility and recognition of minorities involved in cancer research.

The leadership of the AACR feels strongly that it is important to expose young science students, who are still making career decisions, to stimulating and exciting exchanges with established cancer researchers. Through its support of the AACR-Thomas J. Bardos Science Education Awards for Undergraduate Students program, the AACR demonstrates its dedication to promoting the education and training of the next generation of able and dedicated scientists and to facilitating and nurturing their careers in cancer research or cancer-related biomedical science. The purpose of these awards is to inspire young science students to enter the field of cancer research.
