The AACR 101st Annual Meeting 2010 will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC, with a full program of Educational Sessions, Methods Workshops, Basic Science/Clinical Interface Sessions, and Meet-the-Expert Sessions. The Opening Ceremony and Official Opening Plenary Session will take place on Sunday morning, April 18. The Presidential Address will be presented on Sunday afternoon, April 18. The meeting will conclude at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21. View the latest program. NEW IN 2010: AACR CENTRAL

This year the AACR is proud to introduce AACR Central, which will serve as a hub for information and services for attendees, and also as an event space for various programs. AACR Central will be located in the exhibit hall and will contain CancerCareers, an Internet Café, Associate Member Resource Center, Membership Center, and the AACR Exhibit Booth.

    At AACR Central, attendees will be able to:
  • Learn more about AACR member benefits or check the status of one’s membership
  • Participate in events sponsored by the Associate Member Council, Women in Cancer Research (WICR), and Minorities in Cancer Research (MICR)
  • Search for jobs and learn about other career-development opportunities
  • Enjoy internet access
  • Find additional information on AACR’s conferences, award program, advocacy efforts, and the AACR Foundation
  • Pick up copies of CR Magazine, AACR’s peer-reviewed journals, and proceedings from various AACR conferences

AFFILIATE EVENTS

The AACR does not permit any educational programming or satellite symposia during the Annual Meeting. This rule excludes meetings where the participants are exclusively affiliate organization employees. Affiliate organizations are permitted to host hospitality suites and hold social events during non-meeting hours.

ANNUAL MEETING POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  • Children under 12 years of age are not permitted in any scientific session, poster session, or the exhibit hall at any time.
  • Use of photographic or other recording or transmission devices is strictly prohibited in all scientific sessions, poster sessions, and the exhibit hall.
  • Cell phones, pagers, and other electronic devices must be turned off or placed on “silent” mode before entering a session.
  • Attendees may contact the AACR Office in Room 158 of the Convention Center for any lost items.
  • Poster presenters are solely responsible for placing their poster on the assigned poster board and removing their poster according to the schedule provided. The AACR cannot be responsible for any posters that are not removed at the designated time. Posters left in the Exhibit/Poster Hall after that time may be discarded.
  • Poster presenters should not leave any items at their poster board unattended, including poster tubes, meeting bags, Programs, personal items, etc. The AACR is not responsible for any items left in the Exhibit/Poster Hall.

ANNUAL RECEPTION

All Annual Meeting registrants are invited to attend the Annual Reception on Sunday evening, April 18, from 9:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. The Annual Reception will take place in the Independence Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Washington. Complimentary desserts and coffee will be served, and a live band will provide music for dancing. On Sunday evening, shuttle buses will run between all AACR hotels where busing is provided during the day and the Hyatt. Shuttle schedules will be posted in each hotel. Each registrant will receive a voucher for a complimentary drink at the Annual Reception with his/her registration materials.


ASSISTANCE FOR PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED REGISTRANTS

The AACR Annual Meeting is accessible to all attendees. Registrants with special requirements for transportation, hotel accommodations, or other facilities connected with the meeting should notify the AACR in advance when registering or by contacting the AACR Meetings Department at meetings@aacr.org. In addition, a list of organizations in Washington that offer special equipment or services for the physically challenged will be posted on this webpage in March 2010.


CANCER AND BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH CAREER FAIR


CHILD CARE AND NURSING MOTHERS SUITE

The AACR will provide professional child care services in the Convention Center at reduced rates subsidized by the Association for infants and children ages 6 months to 11 years during the Annual Meeting. To register for child care services, please download the child care registration form or online below.

Annual Meeting participants who are also nursing mothers will find the privacy of the Nursing Mothers Suite in the Convention Center a comfortable and secure environment in which to nourish and nurture their babies. AACR-Women in Cancer Research is pleased to sponsor this important service.

INTERNET CAFE

Visit the Internet Café which will be located in two areas of the Convention Center: inside AACR Central in the Exhibit/Poster Hall and on the L Street Bridge, upper level. Attendees may use the kiosks to check personal e-mail and browse the web. The Internet Café will also be available via wireless technology to attendees with compatible equipment. Connection information will be available in both locations. An AACR Annual Meeting attendee or exhibitor badge is required to use the Internet Café.

NIH GRANTS RESOURCE ROOM / SPECIAL SESSIONS

Program and Review staff of the National Cancer Institute and Review staff of the Division of Research Grants (NIH) will be available in the NIH Grants Resource Room (please see Final Program for room number) for discussion and consultation throughout the Annual Meeting. A schedule will be posted listing times at which specific individuals will be available and/or particular topics will be discussed. Interested members of the scientific community are invited to meet with NIH staff to discuss any specific or general items of interest. New investigators are especially encouraged to meet with Program staff in their specific areas of scientific interest. Handout materials will be available. NIH and other government agencies will also present numerous sessions during the Annual Meeting. View the latest program for a list of these sessions.


SESSIONS ON CD-ROM

Audio CD-ROMs in MP3 format of most Annual Meeting oral sessions will be sold by Conference Media Contractors. These CDs can be ordered in the registration area and will be shipped two to three weeks after the meeting. Discounts for multiple orders are available. Please note that the Association has granted to CMC exclusive reproduction rights for the sessions at the Annual Meeting. After the meeting, CMC will accept orders on its website, www.conferencemedia.net, by phone at (888) 222-1614, or by fax to (970) 207-1322.


SPACE FOR SPECIAL FUNCTIONS

The AACR will consider requests for space for special functions or receptions in the official AACR hotels. These requests will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Any corporation that wishes to entertain during the Annual Meeting must be an exhibitor at the meeting. Space request forms are available on the AACR website and included in the Exhibitor Services Manual. Note: Outside educational programs, including company-sponsored symposia, will not be permitted at any time during the AACR 101st Annual Meeting 2010.
