The year 2008 represents the AACR’s first step into its second century of existence. More than 100 years ago, 11 scientists and physicians first gathered at the Willard Hotel in Washington, DC, to discuss the problem of cancer. Ask any of the 17,000+ attendees from the Annual Meeting 2008 in San Diego and they'll agree - there is still no better means of communication than direct person-to-person contact.

The AACR Annual Meeting 2008 began on Saturday, April 12 with a series of 25 Educational Sessions, 13 Methods Workshops, 13 Basic Science-Clinical Interface Sessions, 4 Professional Advancement Sessions, and the AACR-Women in Cancer Research Charlotte Friend Memorial Lecture. Saturday also featured the first AACR Cancer and Biomedical Research Career Fair - a free event for researchers and clinicians at all career levels to meet employers from industry and academic settings.

Sunday's program began with the popular Meet-the-Expert sessions and followed with several Award Presentations and the Opening Plenary Session that featured presentations from Robert A. Weinberg, Irving L. Weissman, Phillip A. Sharp, Carol W. Greider, Thea D. Tlsty, and Brian J. Druker.

Over the course of the meeting, attendees packed the San Diego Convention Center to participate in over 60 Meet-the-Expert Sessions, 20 New Concepts in Organ Site Sessions, 40 Minisymposia, nearly 30 Major Symposia, and a variety of Forums, Award Lectures, and Late-Breaking sessions. In addition, nearly 6,000 abstracts were presented as posters in the 7 Poster Sessions held alongside nearly 500 exhibitors.

The AACR Annual Meeting 2009 will be held from Saturday, April 18 to Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the Colorado Convention Center in beautiful Denver, Colorado. Please be sure to look for Annual Meeting 2009 information in August of 2008 and plan to join your colleagues as we celebrate the 100th AACR Annual Meeting!
