AACR President Raymond N. DuBois, M.D., Ph.D., hosted the Opening Ceremony of the AACR 100th Annual Meeting 2009, which began with a multimedia experience on "100 Years of Science, Synergy, and Success," and led to a celebrity-packed awards ceremony. This included a video appearance by CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric; a live, interactive question and answer session with United States Senator Arlen Specter; a presentation from the Stand Up To Cancer Executive Leadership Council; and a roster of luminaries from the scientific cancer community.
A highlight of the Opening Ceremony included a multimedia experience on "100 Years of Science, Synergy and Success," a video premier of the advancements in cancer research, and the historical developments of the AACR and its role as the nucleus of scientific exchange in the cancer arena.
At the Opening Ceremony, the AACR honored the dedication of preeminent cancer researchers and advocates with prestigious awards:
