I created an itinerary using the AACR Online Itinerary Planner. How do I sync that itinerary with the app?
The Online Itinerary Planner and the Meeting Guide App are distinct tools built on separate platforms and are not integrated. Unfortunately, therefore, there is no way to import your Itinerary Planner schedule into the app. However, you can export the itinerary as an iCalendar file that can be saved to your Outlook, Apple iCal, or Google Calendar application on your mobile device. Instructions for exporting an iCalendar file are available here. The Meeting Guide app does include a bookmarking feature that enables you to flag sessions of interest, create an Itinerary, and sync it with your device calendar. However, this itinerary must be created within the app.

Do I need an Internet connection to use the AACR 2012 Meeting Guide App?

For the iPhone/iPad and Android versions, you only need a connection to download the app. Once installed, all of the app content and functionality is stored natively on your device and can be accessed without an Internet connection. [One exception is the AACR News button. This button links to the AACR Twitter feed and the AACR News RSS feed, so you must be connected to access this information.] The Mobile Web version is for users who do not have an Apple or Android device but have a smartphone or tablet with web browsing capability. The Mobile Web version is a mobile-optimized website built with HTML5 and, therefore, requires an Internet connection. The performance of the Mobile Web version will depend on the speed and strength of your Internet connection, your device’s operating system, and the type and version of the browser being used.

Can I access the meeting abstracts through the app?

Yes. The app includes more than 5,700 abstracts scheduled in Minisymposia and Poster Sessions, which are stored natively on your device. The Session View screen for Minisymposia and Poster Sessions displays a button labeled “Abstracts.” Pressing this button opens a list of abstract titles sorted by abstract number. You can touch any abstract title in the list to read the abstract. Note: Late-Breaking Abstracts are not released to the public until March 30, 2012 and, therefore, are not included in the app upon installation. Beginning March 30, these abstracts will be available for viewing. You will need to download each Late-Breaking Abstract the first time you view it; however, once you have downloaded a Late-Breaking Abstract, it will be stored natively in the app and will be available to you offline.

I don’t see an Itinerary button on the home screen. Where is it?

The Itinerary button will not appear on the home screen until you have bookmarked a session. Once you bookmark a session, the Itinerary will display just below the Happening Soon button. The number of sessions currently saved to your Itinerary will display on the button.

How do I add sessions to my Itinerary?

On the Session View screen, press the “bookmark” icon in the top right corner to save a session to your Itinerary. The icon will turn red to indicate that it has been saved. As you browse through sessions by date, title, type, or topic, sessions that have already been saved to your Itinerary will display the red bookmark.

How do I remove a session from my Itinerary?

From the Session View screen, touch the white bookmark icon in the top right corner. The red bookmark will disappear, and the session will be removed from your Itinerary and your calendar.

Can I save the Annual Meeting sessions in my Itinerary to the calendar on my smartphone?

Yes. The first time you bookmark a session in the Apple and Android versions of the app, you will be asked if you would like to sync your Itinerary with your calendar. Press “Sync” to save bookmarked sessions to your device calendar.

The session start and end times in my calendar are different from the times in the app. Why is this happening?

Note to iPhone/iPad Users Outside the Central US Time Zone: The AACR Annual Meeting is being held in Chicago, so all Annual Meeting sessions are in the US Central time zone. If you have Time Zone Support disabled on your iPhone or iPad, bookmarked session times will be saved to your calendar in your local time zone and will switch to Central Time when you arrive in Chicago. For example, if you are located in the US Eastern time zone and you bookmark a session scheduled from 8:00-10:00 a.m. Central time, the session will display in your calendar from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Eastern time if you have Time Zone Support disabled. When you arrive in Chicago and switch your phone to local time, the session shifts to 8:00-10:00 a.m. in your calendar. If your iPhone/iPad has Time Zone Support enabled and you bookmark a session, you will be asked to enter a time zone when you save the session to your calendar. Visit the Apple Time Zone Support page for more information.
