American Association for Cancer Research

General Information

The Molecular Biology in Clinical Oncology Workshop will take place at the Given Institute of the University of Colorado, a conference center located just a few blocks from the center of the well-known resort community of Aspen, Colorado. Sleeping rooms will be reserved for workshop participants in several hotels near the Given Institute.

Recreational activities in Aspen include hiking, bicycling, tennis, fishing, horseback riding, river rafting, and hot-air ballooning. In addition, the famous Aspen Music Festival will be in progress during the Workshop. Aspen is easily reached by car and by air from the Denver International Airport.

CONTENT OF WORKSHOP
One hour will be devoted to each lecture topic: 45 minutes for the lecture and 15 minutes for discussion. The discussion periods will be organized in such a way that the participants will derive equal benefit from the question and answer period and the lecture itself. Lecturers will be appointed to serve as chairpersons for each session. They will be responsible for stimulating questions on the aspects of the presentation that are important to clinical oncologists.

The Workshop will also feature five different laboratory demonstrations, each of which will be presented five times during the week. Thus, in addition to the panel discussion on laboratory techniques, participants will be able to attend each demonstration in small groups to better maximize this unique learning experience. Trainees will also benefit from sessions on career development and grant preparation, as well as several opportunities to meet one-on-one with faculty members.

SELECTION OF PARTICIPANTS
The application deadline is Monday, April 5. The Organizing Committee will review applications and accept participants from applications received from trainees and senior scientists. Applicants will be notified of their status by mid-May.

WORKSHOP MATERIALS
All faculty members will contribute material to the Workshop syllabus to be distributed to all participants. Faculty members serving as speakers will prepare abstracts of their talks and lists of the most important references for their topics. Faculty members serving as laboratory directors will prepare detailed outlines of the materials to be covered in their demonstrations.
