Individuals may apply for as many awards for which they qualify, but may receive a maximum of one award for this conference. The number of awards provided and the dollar amounts of each award will be based on available funding. Applicants will be notified of their award status approximately three weeks after the application deadline. Applicants who are not selected for an award and, therefore, cannot attend the conference, may receive a full refund of the conference registration fee upon request.
SCHOLAR-IN-TRAINING AWARDS
AACR members in good standing who are graduate and medical students, postdoctoral fellows, or physicians-in-training and submit abstracts may be considered for a Scholar-in-Training Award to offset a portion of the registration, travel and subsistence expenses incurred in attending this conference. To be considered for an award, applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from their program supervisor or department head that describes the quality of their clinical and/or experimental work. The letter may be sent to the Program Development Department by fax to (215) 599-0111 or by email to programs@aacr.org.
Recommendation letters must include the name of the applicant, the title of the abstract submitted, conference name, dates and location. In order to apply for one of these awards, the abstract and letter of recommendation must be submitted by Tuesday, July 9. AACR MINORITY-SERVING INSTITUTION (MSI) FACULTY SCHOLAR IN CANCER RESEARCH AWARDS
The AACR offers awards in cancer research for participation in its meetings and conferences to full-time faculty of Minority-Serving Institutions (Historically Black Colleges and Universities [HBCUs], Hispanic-Serving Institutions [HSIs], Indian Tribally-Controlled Colleges and Universities [ITCCUs], and other postsecondary institutions as defined by the U.S. Department of Education) who are scientists at the assistant professor level or above. The AACR MSI Faculty Scholar Awards program is supported by a generous grant from the Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities of the National Cancer Institute. The purposes of the awards are to increase the scientific knowledge base of faculty members at MSIs, to encourage them in their research, and to assist in inspiring their students to pursue careers in cancer research. AACR MINORITY SCHOLAR IN CANCER RESEARCH AWARDS
The AACR is pleased to administer this important award program that is supported by a generous grant from the Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and provides funds for the participation of meritorious minority scientists in AACR meetings and conferences. These awards are intended to enhance the education and training of minority researchers and to increase the visibility and recognition of minorities involved in cancer research. Eligible scientists are full-time predoctoral (graduate or medical) students or residents, clinical or postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty who are either engaged in cancer research or who have the training and potential to make contributions to this field. This program applies only to racial/ethnic minority groups that have been identified by the NCI as being traditionally underrepresented in cancer and biomedical research. These groups are African-American/Black, Alaska Native, Hispanic American, Native American and Native Pacific Islander. Only citizens of the United States or Canada or scientists who are permanent residents of these countries may receive one of these awards.
