Pre-Conference Workshop: How to Make a Presentation

SUNDAY, AUGUST 3
9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Success in science, getting a job, landing a faculty position at both research and teaching institutions and getting promoted all depend upon your ability to effectively present yourself, your ideas, and your research data. We have all been to seminars where the data is beautiful but the presentation is so convoluted that we cannot follow it. Worse, we all have attended somnolence-inducing seminars or lectures. That should never happen. Frequently, some simple and practical modifications to the presentation could overcome the problem.

Drs. Theresa Guise (University of Virginia) and Dan Welch (University of Alabama - Birmingham) will present an interactive workshop on strategies for more effective data presentations, seminars and teaching lectures. The goal is to provide attendees with practical tips to be more confident and more effective when presenting seminars at job interviews, scientific meetings, corporate work groups, and lab meetings.

We encourage all pre- and post-doctoral trainees, junior faculty, and entry level corporate scientists to take advantage of this practical workshop. Attendees will present short talks with and without audiovisual aids, which will be critiqued by other participants and the workshop coordinators. The tips learned at the workshop can be immediately applied.

Space is still available! Interested participants should contact Lisa Haubein at lisa.haubein@aacr.org. There is a $50 registration fee to attend this workshop and attendance will be limited to 50.
