This was the sixth AACR Special Conference presented in conjunction with the Molecular Epidemiology Working Group of the AACR. Over 170 researchers from two dozen countries attended the conference which featured a series of educational sessions, keynote talks from Drs. Jack Cuzick and David Hunter, plenary sessions, and poster sessions. Integrated throughout the program were short talks from proffered papers. Educational sessions provided attendees with the latest on biomarker discovery, biomarker variability, study design and sources of biases, and issues in collection, storage, and analysis of biospecimens. Plenary sessions focused on new tool for biomarker discovery, validation and application of new biomarkers and measurement tools, applications of new biomarkers, biomarkers of intervention and clinical response, dealing with complexity, and how biomarker studies contribute to prevention. The conference concluded with a panel discussion on the future of molecular epidemiology, including the integration of biomarkers into epidemiology.
