Cancer stem cells are a controversial but increasingly active area of research. This conference addressed the rapidly growing field of knowledge regarding not only stem cells in cancer progression, but also in development and adult tissues. Understanding stems cells as a whole is necessary for the development of new technologies and therapeutics to identify stem cells and specifically disrupt their involvement in cancer progression. Over 250 researchers from two dozen countries participated in this program.
