AACR-Prostate Cancer Foundation Recognition Awards

AACR-Prostate Cancer Recognition Awards are presented to promising young cancer researchers who are the first authors and presenters of highly rated proffered papers focused on advanced/late stage prostate cancer research. The Awards provide a $4,000 travel grant to be spent over two years in support of the Scholars' participation and presentation of data at the AACR 100th Annual Meeting and future AACR meetings and conferences.

Eligibility

  • Young investigators who have not yet achieved faculty status are eligible to apply.
  • Abstract must be focused advanced/late stage prostate cancer research.
  • Employees or subcontractors of industry are not eligible.
  • Candidates must be AACR members or must submit an application for membership by December 1, 2008.
  • Candidates may be traveling from within the U.S. or from abroad. There are no citizenship or residency requirements.

Application

Eligible individuals should check the appropriate box in the Online Abstract Submission System and must submit their abstracts by the December 1, 2008 deadline.

A letter of support (up to two pages) must be sent from the applicants' mentor, supervisor, or Department Head to mona.shater@aacr.org by December 1, 2008. The letter should confirm that the applicant meets the eligibility requirements; describe the applicant's research to be presented at the Annual Meeting and its relevance to advanced/late stage prostate cancer; and attest that the mentor will permit the applicant's presentation of data at future AACR meetings or conferences to be supported by this Award.

Selection and Notification

Selection is made by the Program Committee based upon the novelty, quality, and significance of the abstract submitted.

Recipients of AACR-Prostate Cancer Foundation Recognition Awards will receive notification separate from abstract acceptance and scheduling information. Due to the number of submissions, only the awardees will be notified. Names of the recipients will be posted on the AACR website and in the printed Annual Meeting Final Program.

Note: Selection for a poster session or minisymposium does not guarantee that the presenter will receive an AACR-Prostate Cancer Foundation Recognition Awards.

Support

The AACR-Prostate Cancer Foundation Recognition Awards provide a travel grant of $4,000 to be spent over two years in support of the Scholars' participation and presentation of data at the AACR 100th Annual Meeting and future AACR meetings and conferences.

Up to $2,000 per meeting may be used, and reimbursement checks are provided after the meeting or conference upon submission of proper documentation of travel, housing, registration, and/or subsistence expenses.

Award recipients are required to pay the Annual Meeting registration fee and make their own travel and housing arrangements. Therefore, all applicants are encouraged to register immediately to take advantage of the reduced advance registration rates. Booking travel and housing early will also ensure that the lowest rates will be available.

If an Award recipient is unable to attend the Annual Meeting or will not be the presenter of the abstract, the Award must be forfeited.
