AACR Minority-Serving Institution Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research Awards

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is extremely pleased to announce the availability of Scholar Awards in Cancer Research for full-time faculty members of Minority-Serving Institutions [Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and Tribal Colleges and Universities and other post-secondary institutions as defined by the US Department of Education]. The purposes of this Award program are to increase the scientific knowledge base of faculty members at Minority-Serving Institutions, and to encourage them and their students to pursue careers in cancer research. AACR Minority-Serving Institution Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research Awards are presented by the American Association for Cancer Research to scientists at the level of Assistant Professor or above at a Minority-Serving Institution, who are engaged in meritorious basic, clinical, or translational cancer research.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must have completed doctoral studies or clinical fellowships and hold full-time faculty status at an institution designated as a Minority-Serving Institution.
  • Candidates must have acquired doctoral degrees in fields relevant to cancer research.
  • Candidates must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada.

Financial Support

Financial support will be provided to awardees wishing to attend AACR Annual Meetings and Special Conferences. 

AACR 101st Annual Meeting 2010 

Award applications are now available for eligible faculty interested in attending the AACR 101st Annual Meeting 2010 taking place April 17-21, 2010, in Washington, DC. AACR Staff will process registrations for all awardees and the registration fee will be deducted from the award. The remaining funds will be distributed to awardees for expenses incurred in conjunction with attendance at the meeting or conference, i.e. hotel, airfare, meals, taxis, etc. According to IRS regulations, this award is subject to federal income tax. Thus, all awardees will be issued a 1099 misc tax form at year-end for the amount of the award. If an awardee is unable to attend the meeting for which the award is given, the award must be forfeited.

The deadline for submission of abstracts for presentation at the AACR 101st Annual Meeting 2010 was December 1, 2009.

AACR Special Conferences

AACR Special Conferences on focused topics in cancer research have gained wide recognition as unique opportunities for in-depth discussion of important scientific issues in attractive, informal resort environments. The deadline for applying for an AACR Minority-Serving Institution Faculty Scholar Award for participation in an AACR Special Conference is listed in each conference brochure and on the Special Conferences home page. Please note that you must register for the conference to apply for an award. Payment must be made at the time of registration. If you are not selected for an award and therefore cannot attend the conference, your registration fee will be fully refunded.
