The AACR offers Scholar-in-Training Awards to enhance the education and training of early career scientists by providing financial support for their attendance at AACR Special Conferences. These awards are provided to offset a portion of the registration, travel, and subsistence expenses incurred in attending these conferences.
Eligibility
- All graduate and medical students, postdoctoral fellows, and physicians-in-training who submit abstracts may be considered for a Scholar-in-Training Award.
- Employees or subcontractors of private industry are not eligible.
- Special application procedures may apply. See the conference brochure or website for details.
- As a benefit of membership, awards supported by Aflac, Inc. are restricted to Associate Members.
Application
Individuals wishing to apply for one of these awards should check the appropriate box when submitting their abstract online. Applicants must be listed as the presenter of the abstract. To be considered for an award, applicants must also submit a letter of recommendation from their program supervisor or department head that describes the quality of their clinical and/or experimental work.
Selection
The Conference Chairpersons will select the award recipients based on the qualitative rating of the abstract and the letter of recommendation. Award applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Award recipients will be required to complete a certification form confirming their eligibility.
Support
A stipend (typically US$400–$1,400) will be presented to award recipients at the conference. Photo identification will be required. Awardees who are unable to attend the conference for which they were selected to receive an award must forfeit their award. Please note that, for residents of the United States, these awards are considered taxable income by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. The number of awards provided and the dollar amounts of each award is based on available funding.
