Complete access to the full text of AACR journals requires a subscription. [See below for subscription information.] However, as a founding member of the DC Principles for Free Access to Science, the AACR also offers immediate open access to some articles and delayed open access to all of its articles, as outlined below.
All articles in AACR journals are made available free 12 months after the date of initial publication.
The AACR supports the efforts of cancer patients and those who support them to educate themselves about current and future advances in the fight against cancer. Any patient who needs access to an AACR journal article may request a free copy by e-mailing the complete article information (title, first author, year, page numbers) to pubs@aacr.org. The AACR staff will typically forward a copy of the article within one business day.
AACR journals are now publishing a select number of articles of interest online in advance of the complete issue. Access to these OnlineFirst articles is free until the complete issue is posted. To review the most recent list of OnlineFirst articles, look for the OnlineFirst link in the center of each journal's home page.
Each month the AACR distributes press releases highlighting journal articles of particular interest to the media. The articles featured in these releases are made available free until the next issue of the journal is published. Visit the News page to see recent press releases.
Each issue of selected AACR journals features Highlights, summaries of five to six articles of interest selected by the Editor-in-Chief. The summaries, which are also published in the print versions of each journal, cover why each study was done, what was found, and why they are important. The articles featured in the Highlights sections are made available free until the next issues of each journal are published. Subscriptions to AACR journals include access to the online versions of the journals at the site of the institutional library only. Online journals offer several features—full-text searches, supplementary data, and free access to the full text of selected referenced articles—that greatly enhance your ability to keep up with the current literature.
