Decision Date: March 1, 2009
Start of Grant Term: July 1, 2009

Program Mission Statement

The field of cancer prevention research is rapidly advancing and evolving. To sustain the advancement of the field and the development of new thinking and strategies, younger investigators must be encouraged to pursue cancer prevention research, yet few vehicles exist to recognize their accomplishments or support their early research efforts.

This Award was established and first given in 2008 to recognize the outstanding achievement of an early career Assistant Professor, and to provide support for cancer prevention research of significant scientific merit in any discipline across the continuum of research.

The goals of the program are to:

  • Encourage younger investigators to pursue cancer prevention research of significant scientific merit;
  • Provide the support necessary to sustain and enhance highly meritorious cancer prevention research;
  • Foster interactions between and among cancer scientists and disseminate the scientific knowledge about cancer prevention research; and
  • Contribute to a global impact against cancer.

A two-year grant of $100,000 ($50,000 per year) will be provided to the recipient's institution to support direct research expenses; salary and benefits; and attendance at the AACR Annual Meeting, Cancer Prevention Conference, or other AACR meeting relevant to cancer prevention for the purpose of participating in scholarly exchange.

Applicant Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be scientists at the level of Assistant Professor who completed postdoctoral studies or clinical fellowships on or after July 1, 2006.
