Program Mission Statement
International research collaboration can successfully address the global health problem of cancer through access to unique populations and environments, shared resources, specialized expertise, new concepts and perspectives, innovative methodologies, and/or emerging technologies. However, barriers to sustaining these collaborations exist such as the lack of funding and the sharing of knowledge about these important research partnerships.
This Award will support highly meritorious research that is being conducted collaboratively by investigators in different countries around the world. The goals of the program are to:
- Promote international cancer research collaboration as an effective means to accelerate progress against cancer;
- Provide the support necessary to sustain and enhance highly meritorious international cancer research collaborations;
- Foster interactions between and among cancer scientists and disseminate the scientific knowledge gained from international collaboration; and
- Contribute to a global impact against cancer.
The Award
$100,000 will be provided to the recipients' institutions in the form of a two-year grant to support the collaborative research project, and may be used for such purposes including, but not limited to those listed below:
- Direct research expenses attributable to the proposed research, which may include the salary of research assistants or technicians;
- Expenses for travel to the institutions of the collaborators relevant to the research project;
- Expenses for training in new techniques that will benefit the research project, such as training received through a scholar exchange/visiting professor program; and
- Expenses related to the presentation of research data at scientific meetings or through other means that will contribute to the dissemination of the scientific knowledge gained.
