Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Pilot Grants

Applications are now closed.

Application Deadline: November 10, 2008
Decision Date: March 16, 2009
Start of Grant Term:  July 1, 2009

Program Mission Statement

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Pilot Grants represent a joint effort to promote and support new ideas and innovative models that have direct application and demonstrate direct relevance to pancreatic cancer. In addition to pancreatic cancer researchers, investigators with experience in other areas of cancer research who have promising and realistic research approaches that can be applied to pancreatic cancer are also invited to apply.

The Grants are for a two-year period and range from $100,000 - $200,000 over the grant term, depending upon project requirements. Grant funds support direct research expenses, which may include the salary and benefit of postdoctoral/clinical research fellows or research assistants.

Three to six grants will be awarded in 2009.

Research Project Criteria

Proposals will be accepted for new ideas and innovative models that have direct application or demonstrate direct relevance to pancreatic cancer; projects may be in any discipline of basic, translational, clinical, or epidemiological cancer research.

Investigators with experience in other areas of cancer research who have promising and realistic research approaches that can be applied to pancreatic cancer are also invited to apply.

Proposals that will develop preliminary data necessary to prepare and submit a competitive research grant application to a major funding agency will also be accepted.

Special emphasis will be placed on research that is not duplicative of other efforts.

Applicant Eligibility Criteria

Applications will be accepted from independent investigators at all levels, who are working at an academic, medical or research institution within the United States. There are no citizenship restrictions.

Postdoctoral or clinical research fellows or the equivalent who are working under the auspices of a scientific mentor are not eligible to apply. Fellows are instead encouraged to apply for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Fellowship.

Employees or subcontractors of a national government or for-profit private industry are not eligible to apply.

Applicants must have acquired a doctoral degree in a related field, and may not currently be a candidate for another degree.

Both AACR members and nonmembers are eligible to apply. However, nonmembers must submit a satisfactory application for Active membership by November 10, 2008. The membership application will be applied to the year the grant application is submitted. A membership application may be downloaded from the AACR website.

Past recipients of any Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Grants are eligible to apply if the term of the previous grant has concluded. However, investigators may apply for only one Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Grant per year. That is, investigators may not apply for both the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Pilot Grants and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-AACR Career Development Awards.

Past AACR grantees who have failed to submit a final progress report or financial report may not apply until these reports have been provided. Current recipients of any AACR grant are not eligible. That is, individuals may hold only one AACR grant at a time.

Candidates with a question about their eligibility are encouraged to contact the AACR at awards@aacr.org, prior to submitting an application.
