Program Mission Statement

The BCRF-AACR Grants for Translational Breast Cancer Research are a joint effort of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the American Association for Cancer Research.

The grants provide direct support for innovative cancer research projects designed to accelerate the discovery, development, and application of new agents to treat breast cancer and/or for pre-clinical research with direct therapeutic intent.

Laboratory-based projects must present plans with clinical collaborators indicating how the work will be translated into the clinic. Similarly, clinical studies must show how the work was derived from basic preclinical work and how results will be channeled back to laboratory-based collaborators.

The AACR will award 3 two-year grants of up to $250,000 in this cycle.

Applicant Eligibility Criteria

Independent investigators who are affiliated with any institution involved in cancer research, cancer medicine, or cancer-related biomedical science anywhere in the world may apply. There are no geographic, national, or residency status restrictions. Pre- and Postdoctoral fellows are not eligible.

Employees or subcontractors of a national government or the for-profit private industry are not eligible to serve as the Principal Investigator for the purpose of these grants. However, collaborations with such individuals are encouraged.

Neither the members of the Scientific Review Committee nor the members of their individual laboratories are eligible for these Grants.

Applicants must have acquired a doctoral degree in a related field.

Both AACR members and nonmembers are eligible to apply. However, nonmembers must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Active membership by July 1, 2008. The application will be applied to 2008 membership dues. An application may be downloaded from the AACR website at www.aacr.org.
