Minority Scholar in Cancer Research Awards

Description

AACR Minority Scholar in Cancer Research Awards are offered to eligible minority scientists wishing to participate in Annual Meetings and Special Conferences of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). These awards are intended to enhance the education and training of minority researchers and to increase the visibility and recognition of minorities involved in cancer research.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must be full-time graduate students, medical students, residents, clinical or postdoctoral fellows, or junior faculty members.
  • Only minority groups that have been defined by the National Cancer Institute as being traditionally underrepresented in cancer and biomedical research are eligible for this award: African Americans, Alaskan Natives, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Native Pacific Islanders.
  • Candidates must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada.

Financial Support

Financial support will be provided to awardees wishing to attend the AACR Annual Meeting and Special Conferences. 

AACR Annual Meeting 2009

Award applications for participation in the AACR Annual Meeting 2009 taking place April 18-22, 2009 in Denver, CO will be available in late summer 2008. View the list of 2008 Minority Scholars.

AACR Special Conferences

AACR Special Conferences on focused topics in cancer research have gained wide recognition as unique opportunities for in-depth discussion of important scientific issues in attractive, informal resort environments. The deadline for applying for a Minority Scholar Award for participation in an AACR Special Conference is listed in each conference brochure and on the Special Conference's home page. Please note that you must register for the conference to apply for an award. Payment must be made at the time of registration. If you are not selected for an award and therefore cannot attend the conference, your registration fee will be fully refunded.
