Science Education for the Next Generation of Cancer Researchers

AACR is committed to the education and training of the next generation of able and dedicated cancer researchers. This commitment is demonstrated through various programs which provide unique opportunities for undergraduate and high school students to experience lively exchanges with established members of the cancer research community.

AACR Student Membership
Student membership is open to persons who have manifested an interest in cancer and related biomedical science and who are enrolled in a program leading to a high school diploma or bachelor's degree.

AACR-Thomas J. Bardos Science Education Awards for Undergraduate Students
The primary purpose of these awards is to inspire young science students to enter the field of cancer research. Awards are available to full-time third-year undergraduate students for participation in two consecutive AACR Annual Meetings.

AACR Undergraduate Student Caucus and Poster Competition
The AACR has extended its commitment to this population by providing exciting and dynamic programs for undergraduates to address education and career transitioning with opportunities for students to compete for prizes while presenting their research.  First, second, and third place winners of the poster competition are awarded the AACR-Gary J. Miller Undergraduate Student Prizes for Cancer and Cancer-Related Biomedical Research.

AACR Special Program for High School Students:  The Conquest of Cancer and the Next Generation of Cancer Researchers
This exciting and interactive program provides students with the unique opportunity to network with peers while learning about cancer and the field of cancer research from established cancer investigators.

Mentoring Opportunities for AACR Members
By strengthening interactions between senior cancer scientists and promising students, we hope to accomplish the ultimate goal of facilitating the contributions of young students to scientific research and the conquest of cancer. We invite AACR members to join us on this journey by completing the AACR Mentor Interest Form (Adobe Acrobat Reader required).
