American Association for Cancer Research-Gary J. Miller Undergraduate Prizes for Cancer and Cancer-Related Biomedical Research
For undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students. First, second, and third place cash prizes for best student abstract/poster/poster presentation at AACR Annual Meeting’s Undergraduate Student Caucus and Poster Competition. First place winner must attend the next AACR Annual Meeting. Free registration for AACR 103nd Annual Meeting 2012, Mar. 31-Apr. 4, 2012, Chicago, IL, for all participants.

NIH—Undergraduate Scholarship Program
For students from disadvantaged backgrounds committed to biomedical, behavioral and social science research careers at the NIH. Up to $20,000 per academic year in tuition, educational expenses, and reasonable living expenses to scholarship recipients. Scholarships are awarded for one year, and can be renewed up to four years.
Requirements of the scholarship: 1) Ten-week Summer Laboratory Experience. 2) Employment at the NIH after Graduation--one year of full-time employment for each year of scholarship.

Annual Biomedical Conference for Minority Students—Student Travel Award
For undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students. $1,500 to cover registration, housing and travel (airfare and ground transportation) to conference to be held November 10-13, 2010, in Charlotte, NC.

American Association for Cancer Research-Thomas J. Bardos Science Education Award for Undergraduate Students
For third-year undergraduate students, 17 students selected annually. A $1,500 yearly stipend to attend two consecutive AACR Annual Meetings: March 31-April 4, 2012, in Chicago, and April 6-10, 2013, in Washington, DC. Leftover funds can be used for school/lab projects, conference travel, etc. Apply online.

American Foundation for Aging Research—Science Research Education Awards
For undergraduates who wish to conduct research related to aging or age-related disease, $500 for undergraduates or $1,000 GlaxoSmithKline award for students in North Carolina; renewable. Jack Kent Cooke Foundation—Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship
For community college students who wish to transfer to a four-year college or university. Up to $30,000 per year, approximately 50 students selected annually. Must be nominated by the Cooke Foundation Faculty Representative at your two-year institution: Students cannot apply directly to the Foundation. Each two-year college may nominate up to two students each year to be considered for the scholarship.

U.S.—Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship
For those who will be college juniors and seniors in the 2010–2011 academic year—who have outstanding potential and intend to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. Up to a maximum of $7,500 annually. Four-year institutions are eligible to nominate up to four students.

DAAD New York—Undergraduate Scholarship
For second and third-year undergraduate students. Scholarships fund four to ten months of study, senior thesis research and/or internships in Germany, either as part of an organized study abroad program or an individual, student-designed study abroad semester or year.

Summer Research Opportunities
2012 Introduction to Cancer Research Careers (ICRC) Program
National Cancer Institute
The ICRC is designed to encourage individuals from populations underrepresented in science and/or financially disadvantaged backgrounds to seek internship opportunities at the NCI. Successful ICRC applicants will take part in a two-day campus visit to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, where they will have the opportunity to learn about the various scientist-in-training programs, participate in laboratory tours, interview for either a summer or post-baccalaureate (one-year) internship. Participants selected for internships receive a monthly stipend, round-trip travel and summer housing.

Summer Program in Cancer Prevention Research
MD Anderson Cancer Center
The Cancer Prevention Research Training Program is now accepting applications for the 2012 Summer Program in Cancer Prevention Research. This NCI-R25E funded program is open to all undergraduate, graduate and medical students who are US citizens or permanent residents. University of Maryland School of Public Health Summer Training and Research (STAR) Program
This program is designed to provide traditionally under-represented undergraduate students with two consecutive summers of a 10-week research training and career development program to enhance their potential to apply for and complete graduate degrees in biomedical and behavioral science relevant to preventing and treating cardiovascular disease.

21st Annual University of Virginia Summer Research Internship Program (SRIP)
Ten-week summer research internships are available for qualified undergraduates considering a career in biomedical research. We provide a generous stipend, round-trip travel and housing to those accepted. Supported by peer-reviewed NIH grants and other extramural organizations, SRIP exposes a diverse group of students to current biomedical research. SRIP alumni have had great success at starting their research careers and many have enrolled in our graduate programs at UVA.

UCLA—Amgen Scholars Program
For college Sophomores (with 4 quarters or 3 semesters of college experience), Juniors and non-graduating Seniors (who are returning in the fall to continue their undergraduate experience), U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents, cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2 or above, interested in pursuing a Ph.D. Summer research program: participate in research projects, attend scientific seminars (including a 3-day conference in Los Angeles), and work under some of the nation’s top academic scientists, June 19- Aug 26. $3500 Stipend, housing and some meals provided, a three-day Biotechnology Conference at UCLA, GRE test preparation, luncheons with faculty, workshops, scientific writing instruction, seminars, and poster presentations.

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University--Modeling and Simulation in Systems Biology (MSSB)
For undergraduate students majoring in a mathematical or computational science, interested in biomathematics. Summer program 2011: May 31 - August 6. Includes scholarship reimbursement of $3,500, travel costs, on-campus housing and meals, access and use of the library, public transportation, social activities, scientific ethics workshop, workshops on giving presentations.

This 8-week program is designed for motivated minority undergraduate students who have completed their sophomore or junior year toward a bachelor's degree in biological sciences and are interested in learning about a career in biomedicine and the medical sciences.

National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)--Short-Term Education Program for Underrepresented Persons (STEP-UP)
The program exposes underrepresented and disadvantaged students to research in the NIDDK mission areas including diabetes, endocrinology, metabolism, nutrition, obesity and digestive, liver, urologic, kidney, and hematologic diseases.

USF Summer Program for the Advancement of Research Knowledge (SPARK)
Moffitt's SPARK program is a sponsored internship program for college undergraduates at the Moffitt Cancer Center on the campus of the University of South Florida in Tampa.

UCSD--Summer Training Academy for Research in the Sciences (STARS)
Funded primarily by the National Science Foundation, through the Office of Graduate Studies, STARS offers exciting eight week summer research opportunities for underrepresented students in the sciences, engineering, and math. The academy provides research experience, GRE training and workshops in preparation for the challenges of doctoral programs.

Roswell Park Cancer Institute--Summer Research Experience
Applications are accepted from students who will have completed their junior year in high school (Class of 2012) and have demonstrated a high ability and interest in science. The program is held each summer for seven (7) weeks. Each student works on an independent research project under the guidance of RPCI scientific staff. All students present their research poster during a scientific conference held at the end of the program. Free tuition, $50 activity fee, dorm housing available for $800, meals not included. Application fee $10.

Moffitt Cancer Center—Projects LINK/ET (Leaders In New Knowledge/Emerging Technologies)
A year around research training program open to high school juniors/seniors and college undergraduates who are interested in pursuing careers in cancer research. Students must have a 3.5 GPA. Students are matched with a Moffitt scientist/mentor and expected to commit approximately 10-20 hours per week during the school year and full-time during the summer months. Attendance at educational/scientific lectures is required. A two-year commitment is required.
Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute—Undergraduate Summer Fellowships in Cancer Research
For outstanding undergraduates interested in a career in biomedical research. Ten-week summer research assignment with faculty mentor. At the end of the summer experience, each student will prepare and deliver a poster describing his/her work in an organized "Poster Day" together with other summer cancer research fellows; $4,000 stipend.

Monmouth University School of Science—Summer Research Program
For undergraduates and M.S.-level graduate students, also for a limited number of high school students who have completed their junior year, or teams of high school students and teachers. Center for Health Disparities and Molecular Medicine of Loma Linda University School of Medicine—Undergraduate Training Program (UTP) For undergraduate students between their sophomore and junior years. Summer biomedical research internship program 2011: June 13 to Aug. 5. Hands-on biomedical research training, mentoring by dedicated scientists, participation in scientific seminars and lectures, educational enrichment activities, presentation of a research poster in our Annual Health Disparities Research Symposium at the end of the program, and opportunities to attend national meetings to make scientific presentations. Participating students will be competitively compensated.

Project: IMHOTEP is designed for underrepresented minority students who are interested in pursuing careers in public health. The IMHOTEP program is an interdisciplinary research program that is open to students of all disciplines. Requirements: Applicant must be a junior, senior or recent graduate student with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.7 or better. Dates of 10-week Program: May 23 - August 10. Location: Atlanta, GA; Cincinnati, OH; Hyattsville, MD; Morgantown, WV; Pittsburgh, PA; Spokane,WA; Anchorage, AK; and Washington, DC; additional national and various international locations to be determined. UNCF-Merck—Undergraduate Science Research Scholarship Awards
For African-American undergraduates in their junior year. Up to $35,000, which includes up to $25,000 towards tuition, room and board, and billable fees. Each UNCF-Merck Undergraduate Fellow will be mentored by a Merck scientist and will receive two Summer Research Internships (at a Merck research facility in Rahway, NJ, West Point, PA, or Boston, MA) with stipends totaling at least $10,000, if eligible.
