Since the initial meeting of MEG in April 1997 at the AACR Annual Meeting, MEG (and now MEG/AACR) has been skillfully chaired by its Founding Members, Drs. Fred F. Kadlubar, Chairperson, and Christine B. Ambrosone, Vice Chairperson. These individuals have:
- Developed the proposed Charter for MEG/AACR in consultation with the leadership of the AACR and conferred in November 1997 with the AACR to obtain its approval in principle of MEG/AACR as a Scientific Working Group of the AACR pending satisfactory resolution of the key elements in the Charter and operating procedures
- Established a relationship with the AACR Program Committee and planned numerous MEG/AACR events at the 1998 and 1999 Annual Meetings
- Held a meeting of the Steering Committee of MEG/AACR in September 1998 to discuss the details of policies and procedures concerning the relationship of MEG/AACR with the AACR
- Proposed the scheduling of MEG/AACR-sponsored future events (e.g. Special Conferences)
- Communicated with molecular epidemiology groups in Italy and the UK to enhance joint international activities, and considered future collaborative efforts
- Maintained ongoing communication with the current members of MEG/AACR about upcoming events
The official formation of MEG/AACR is effective January 1999.
