The following programs and activities, some of which have already been approved by the AACR Board of Directors and are well underway, are proposed as ways to accomplish the above-stated goals of MEG/AACR:
- Events at the AACR Annual Meeting
- Business Meeting of MEG/AACR Members and Networking Reception
- Scientific Sessions
- Representation of MEG/AACR members on the AACR Program and Education Committees to provide expert input into the proposal of scientific sessions (symposia, sunrise sessions, educational sessions, minisymposia, poster sessions) which would carry the sponsorship of MEG/AACR
- Other possible programs, e.g., institution of a Young Investigator "Best Proffered Presentation" Award in molecular epidemiology
- Special Conferences that would have substantial appeal to MEG/AACR members and other relevant scientists in the scientific community
- Educational Workshops that offer training opportunities for young investigators interested in the field of molecular epidemiology
- Seminars that promote substantial interaction around timely issues in the field
- Educational sessions on molecular epidemiology held at meetings of other scientific societies (e.g., Environmental Mutagen Society, American College of Epidemiology, Society for Epidemiologic Research, American Society for Preventive Oncology, International Society for Environmental Epidemiology, Society of Toxicology, and others)
- Print or online publication of a periodic Newsletter to MEG/AACR members
- Creation of a MEG/AACR home page on AACR's Website for announcements of the Working Group's programs and activities
- Development of a MEG/AACR Listserve for interactive discussion of scientific and related topics, for information exchange and networking, and for opportunities for collaborative relationships
- Position papers on topical and timely scientific, public, and ethical issues as approved by the AACR Board of Directors. MEG/AACR would work as a united force in concert with the AACR Public Education Committee and the Public Relations and Communications Committee to address public policy issues that have an impact on molecular epidemiologic research
- Adoption of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention (CEBP)as the official journal of MEG/AACR. The manifestation of this relationship will include: the publication of announcements, meeting reports, position papers, etc., as approved by the Editor-in-Chief of the journal, provided such materials are within the policy guidelines of the AACR; acknowledgment of this relationship between MEG/AACR and CEBP on the cover of the journal; and mandatory purchase of CEBP by MEG/AACR members, with the exception of associate or student members who may purchase CEBP on an optional basis
