One Mission …

The AACR Scientist↔Survivor Program is a unique program designed to build bridges and unity among the leaders of the scientific and cancer survivor and patient advocacy communities worldwide.

We hope to accomplish these goals by fostering mutually beneficial and enduring partnerships among these important groups and promoting the exchange of information on key aspects of cancer research, survivorship, advocacy and public policy. Launched in 1999, at the AACR Annual Meeting, the program is tailored to the needs of both constituencies and offers them an unparalleled opportunity to meet and interact over several days in a stimulating and engaging atmosphere.

Through our program, survivor and patient advocates are able to develop stronger backgrounds in cancer research and related issues; keep abreast of recent advances in drug development and basic, clinical and translational cancer research; and be exposed to the knowledge and dedication of cancer scientists. The program exposes advocates to special lay-language lectures, small group discussions and other interactions that provide a solid background for exploring the scientific sessions at the annual meeting on their own or with scientific mentors.

Scientists who participate in the program gain a more personal understanding of cancer’s impact on patients and their loved ones, are exposed to the key concerns of survivor and patient advocates, and become more cognizant of the vital role that advocates play in supporting cancer research.

By strengthening communications and forging partnerships between these important communities in the cancer field, the Scientist↔Survivor Program enhances efforts to accelerate progress in the fight against cancer.
