WICR Professional Advancement Series Sessions

AACR-WICR is committed to the career development of early-career scientists through the professional advancement series. To that end, WICR is pleased to sponsor the annual Leila Diamond Networking Breakfast, which is named after a strong role model and advocate for women in science.

Dr. Diamond helped found WICR in 1998 and served as its first president; she was committed to creating an awareness of the accomplishments of women scientists. The breakfast, which is open to all Annual Meeting attendees, provides a unique forum for networking among researchers at different stages in their careers and working in a variety of scientific disciplines.

WICR also organizes networking sessions at AACR Special Conferences and Meetings.

AACR-WICR Charlotte Friend Memorial Lectureship

The Charlotte Friend Lectureship was established in 1998 in honor of renowned virologist and discoverer of the Friend virus, Dr. Charlotte Friend, for her pioneering research on viruses, cell differentiation, and cancer. The lecture is intended to give recognition to an outstanding female or male scientist who has made meritorious contributions to the field of cancer research and who has, through leadership or by example, furthered the advancement of women in science. Winners present a lecture during the AACR Annual Meeting.
