The AACR Centennial Conference on Translational Cancer Medicine 2008: Cancer Clinical Trials and Personalized Medicine is the second in the AACR Centennial Conference series on Translational Cancer Medicine and the first to be held in the United States. Translational research is a key programmatic priority of the AACR, and this meeting will showcase the latest scientific discoveries from the laboratory and their clinical applications.

This conference is a unique event that brings together and fosters discussion between clinicians and basic scientists from academia, industry, and government. To accomplish this, in addition to forums and educational sessions, we have designed a special format for the plenary sessions: speakers will give a 25-minute presentation followed by 15 minutes of discussion, and session chairs will give additional opening (10 minutes) and concluding (20 minutes) remarks. We hope that this format will promote the open discourse necessary for confronting the challenges of applying scientific discoveries in cancer to the practice of medicine. This conference will also target early-career investigators through luncheon sessions with speakers and other experts. Highlighting this program will be a keynote address by Charles L. Sawyers titled "Overcoming Resistance to Molecularly Targeted Cancer Therapy."
