DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid): A nucleic acid made of deoxyribose and four different types of bases or nucleotides (A, T, G, C) that pair with each other to form a linear, double-stranded DNA helix. The order of the bases in a gene is called the DNA sequence. DNA is the molecule that encodes genes.
