The 2006 Special Conference on New Developments in the Epidemiology of Cancer Prognosis was the second conference organized in conjunction with the Molecular Epidemiology Working Group (MEG) of the AACR. Participants from over a dozen countries participated in this program which assembled experts from various scientific fields, focused on cross-disciplinary collaboration, and helped to develop new ideas from basic research which were being exploited by investigators in different tumor systems. New investigator collaborations across the various subspecialties were facilitated to stimulate the exchange of information and accelerate translational research and the clinical application of the new molecular findings in cancer prognosis.
Of the 50 abstracts submitted for the conference, nearly 20% were presented as short-talks throughout the plenary sessions. Those not selected for short-talks were presented during the poster session on Thursday, January 12. Keynote talks from Dr. William E. Evans of St. Jude Children’s Research Center and Dr. Kathy S. Albain of Loyola University Medical Center opened the conference on Wednesday evening, and an exciting Panel Discussion on "Future Directions in Predicting Treatment Response and Survival in Cancer Patients" closed the conference on Saturday afternoon.
