The 2006 Innovations in Prostate Cancer Research conference focused on the recent progress in prostate cancer with a special emphasis on the latest innovations and advances in the study, detection, and treatment of this common cancer. Over 250 participants from a wide variety of backgrounds and expertise attended the conference; and over half of those presented abstracts of their latest research.
The conference opened with Keynote Lectures from Dr. Howard Scher of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Dr. Judah Folkman of Harvard Medical School. Invited sessions focused on Cancer Detection and Prediction, Tumor Microenvironment, Genetics and Epigenetics of Prostate Cancer, Metastasis and Progression, Growth and Death, Stem Cells, Translational Research, and New Therapeutics Approaches. The Closing Keynote Address was presented by Dr. Vishva Dixit of Genentech, Inc.
Invited speakers presented recent advances in understanding the etiology of this disease as well as translation of these discoveries to better serve cancer patients. Overviews of key cutting-edge technologies, animal models, and drug development approaches and how these latest discoveries can be integrated into current understanding of the disease were also addressed.
