AACR-Minorities in Cancer Research is excited to announce the following programs that will be featured during the 2007 AACR Annual Meeting, April 14-18, 2007 in Los Angeles, CA. All Annual Meeting registrants are invited to participate in these events (unless otherwise noted).

Second Annual AACR-Minorities in Cancer Research-Jane Cooke Wright Lectureship

The AACR-Minorities in Cancer Research-Jane Cooke Wright Lectureship was first presented in 2006. The lectureship is intended to give recognition to an outstanding scientist who has made meritorious contributions to the field of cancer research and who has, through leadership or by example, furthered the advancement of minority investigators in cancer research.

The winner of the 2nd Annual AACR-Minorities in Cancer Research-Jane Cooke Wright Lectureship will give a lecture during the 2007 AACR Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, CA (April 14-18, 2007).

MICR Forum
Genetic Variability and Ethnicity in Cancer Treatment Outcomes: Challenges and Opportunities

In this Forum, experts will examine whether genetic variability and ethnicity represent uniquely different genetic backgrounds that determine outcome of therapy and, thus, should influence planning and selection of cancer therapy for ethnically diverse populations.

The MICR Town Meeting will provide an opportunity for the MICR Council to present its members, agenda, and programs to AACR members and annual meeting participants. This meeting will give participants a chance to share ideas, voice concerns, and express views on a variety of related topics.

MICR Professional Advancement Reception and Roundtable
Navigating the Road to a Successful Career in Cancer Research

This exciting session is a must for individuals pursuing careers in cancer research or other biomedical sciences. This interactive session provides a forum in which students, postdocs, and junior faculty can discuss important career development issues and survival skills with established senior scientists. This session has been extremely successful in past years and will include a keynote talk followed by mentored roundtable discussions facilitated by senior researchers from a variety of sectors in the cancer community including academia, government, and industry.

MICR Scientific Symposium
Molecular Aspects of Cancer Treatment and of Cancer Risk

This session will address whether it might be reasonable to ask the scientific question:  Are there molecular processes that traffic with race/ethnicity, that may contribute to disparities in cancer outcomes?

AACR Minority-Serving Institution Faculty Scholar Awards in Cancer Research
AACR Minority-Serving Faculty Scholar Awards in Cancer Research are offered to increase the scientific knowledge base of faculty members at Minority-Serving Institutions, and to encourage them and their students to pursue careers in cancer research. Recipients of 2007 awards for participation in the AACR Annual Meeting will be announced.

AACR Minority Scholar Awards in Cancer Research
AACR Minority Scholar Awards in Cancer Research are offered to eligible minority scientists wishing to participate in Annual Meetings and Special Conferences of the American Association for Cancer Research. Recipients of 2007 awards for participation in the AACR Annual meeting will be announced.

Activities have been scheduled throughout the Annual Meeting for 2007 MSI Faculty Scholars and Minority Scholars. Information regarding these activities will be sent to awardees.
