Welcome to the June e-newsletter for the Survivor and Patient Advocacy Program. The spring issue of CR is out, and the full text of articles is available to subscribers at www.CRmagazine.org. Advocate Affiliate Membership
The AACR is strongly committed to broadening the participation of survivors and advocates in our programs. We are extending an invitation to all advocates to join the AACR as Advocate Affiliate Members. Some of the benefits available to you as an affiliate member are:

  • A complimentary subscription to CR magazine;
  • A membership directory of more than 24,000 member researchers in the cancer field;
  • Advance copies of the annual meeting program (online) and the Proceedings of the American Association for Cancer Research;
  • Subscriptions to the AACR’s five journals at a reduced rate;

AACR Survivor Advocate Opportunities
The AACR strongly encourages the attendance of survivors and patient advocates at the Advances in Breast Cancer Research conference in San Diego. The AACR is pleased to offer survivor advocates discounted registration rates. Advocates who are affiliate members of the AACR are eligible for a discounted rate of $150. The discounted rate for advocates who are not members is $200. The deadline for advanced registration is Sept. 4, 2007, and on-site registration at this special rate WILL NOT be available. Please check back on the AACR's Survivors and Advocates website in a few weeks to download the survivor advocate registration form.

In addition to the registration form, representatives of organizations must submit a personal biography or curriculum vitae and a brochure from their organization. Independent advocates must also submit a biography or curriculum vitae, along with a letter of recommendation from a colleague.

Additional Advocate Opportunities 
Spaces are available at Understanding Evidence-Based Healthcare: A Foundation for Action, a consumer advocacy summit on July 17, 2007, in Washington, D.C. Attend this one-day summit to learn more about evidence-based health care, exchange information with consumer advocates, learn from other organizations, and engage in discussion about consumer advocate/researcher partnerships. The summit is hosted by Consumers United for Evidence-based Healthcare (CUE) and the United States Cochrane Center (USCC). Sponsors include the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality and the John M. Eisenberg Clinical Decisions and Communications Science Center.
