A national leader in the clinical development of targeted biologic therapy, intraperitoneal therapy, and immunologic approaches to cancer treatment, Dr. Armstrong is a clinical investigator in women's malignancies, with a particular emphasis on breast cancer, ovarian and other gynecologic malignancies, and the genetics of breast and ovarian cancer.

Dr. Armstrong is active in the Gynecologic Oncology Group (now NRG) and is on the board of directors of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO). She is chair of the Oncology Drugs Advisory Committee for the US FDA and is co-chair of the Ovarian Cancer Task Force of the Gynecologic Cancer Steering Committee for the NCI. Dr. Armstrong is a representative of Johns Hopkins to the National Cooperative Cancer Network (NCCN) serving as co-chair of the ovarian cancer panel, and as an advisor and scientific reviewer for the NCCN Clinical Trials Network.  She is a member of the Integration Panel for the Department of Defense Ovarian Cancer Research Program. Dr. Armstrong has served as a scientific reviewer for the NCI Special Emphasis Panel for Insight Awards to Stamp Out Breast Cancer and as a member of the NCI SPORE Program parent committee.

Dr. Armstrong has received numerous awards including a Susan G. Koman Foundation Fellowship, a Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology, a Career Development Award from the American Cancer Society, the Ladies Home Journal Breakthrough Achievement Award, the Rosalind Franklin Award for Excellence in Ovarian Cancer Research, the Inaugural SGO Larry Long Multidisciplinary Award, the Director's Teaching Award in Clinical Science from the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, and has twice received the Johns Hopkins University Department of Medicine Osler Housestaff Teaching Award.
