AACR-MICR Distinguished Lectureship Series

The Minorities in Cancer Research (MICR) Council's AACR Distinguished Lectureship Series (DLS) brings together leading researchers who present the latest developments in cancer research to students and faculty at Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs). These lectures are intended to inspire young minority students and educators at MSIs to pursue cancer research.

Minorities in Cancer Research Distinguished Lectureship Series: "Cancer Health Disparities Research: Past, Present and Future" - Examples of Progress Made & Barriers to Overcome (Hopefully by You)

Monday, September 23, 2019
4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
San Francisco State University
San Francisco, California

Advances in cancer disparities research has led to a shared understanding that the disproportionate burden of disease for particular minority groups (e.g. based on race/ethnicity and gender) results, in most part, from the confluence of multiple factors (biological, environmental, behavioral and system-level).  This symposium will highlight current research that exemplifies this complexity for the two most common cancers, as well as allow attendees to leave with a broad understanding of some of the main achievements as well as barriers that investigators face when trying to understand and eliminate cancer health disparities. Faculty, students, and community members are invited to attend and engage in a robust conversation as leading experts present their work and perspectives.
