Daniel J. Sargent, PhD, an AACR member since 2015, died Sept. 22, 2016, at the age of 46.
Sargent joined the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, in 1996. He was the Ralph S. and Beverly E. Caulkins professor of cancer research, chair of the Division of Biomedical Statistics and Informatics, professor of biostatistics and oncology, and section head of the Section of Cancer Center Biostatistics.
Sargent’s research focused primarily on conduct and methodology of clinical trials in cancer, including clinical trial design, design and analysis of studies involving tumor markers, meta-analyses, and survival analysis. He was the primary consulting statistician for the Gastrointestinal Cancer Program of the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center and served as the group statistician for the National Cancer Institute-funded Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology group.
A lifelong Minnesotan, Sargent was born Aug. 22, 1970, in Red Wing and attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he received a doctorate in biomedical statistics.
