Mai Tanaka is a PhD candidate at the University of Florida, whose research investigates the receptor tyrosine kinase Axl signaling pathway in triple-negative breast cancer. Her project aims to develop novel therapeutic strategies to treat patients with advanced, metastatic cancers. Being an international student with Japanese/Bangladeshi heritage, Mai is passionate about tackling cancer disparities and promoting diversity and inclusivity in the STEM fields and her community. She is a strong advocate for education and has held numerous leadership roles to promote community engagement, improve science literacy, and provide research opportunities to members of the UF community.
