AACR Patient Advocate Abstracts

Abstract submission deadline is November 16, 2023.

Abstract Submission Will Open Friday, September 29. 2023

Patient advocate abstracts should feature studies led by patient advocates or co-led by patient advocates and cancer researchers. Patient advocates interested in submitting an abstract should either work, or volunteer, for a not-for-profit patient advocacy organization that:

  • Demonstrates a charitable mission;
  • Engages in patient advocacy activities; and/or
  • Supports programs, activities, or services that benefit patients with cancer.

Please note that current or past AACR Active or Associate members cannot submit an abstract in this category.

Individuals may be asked to submit an AACR Advocate Verification Form.

ABSTRACT CATEGORY, SUBCATEGORY, AND Keyword

Studies to be Presented by Patient Advocates. Patient Advocacy and Engagement is a subcategory included in Science and Health Policy (SHP). Patient advocates may submit work to this category, or any other category, and simply select “Advocacy” as one of the keywords to be considered for a session featuring patient advocates as presenting authors.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

Complete instructions on the use of the AACR Abstract Submission System is provided on the website. Authors must use their myAACR login to access the submission system; authors who do not have a myAACR account will have the opportunity to create one during submission.

The Abstract Submission System has been optimized for the current versions of most browsers. Browsers should be set to enable JavaScript and to accept cookies. Users who need assistance in properly updating and configuring their browsers should contact Abstract Submission Customer Service at 217-398-1792 or [email protected].

LENGTH OF ABSTRACTS

The combined length of the abstract body, title, and tables may not exceed 2,600 characters, not including spaces and the author string. Tables count for 800 characters against the limit. Submission cannot be completed for abstracts that exceed this limit.

SUBMISSION FEE

Each abstract submitted must be accompanied by a $75 abstract submission fee. The submission fee can be paid by credit card or check. The fee is nonrefundable regardless of the final disposition of the abstract.

If accepted, advocate presenters can apply for a Patient Advocate in Cancer Research Award to offset registration, housing, and/or travel costs incurred by attending the conference.

ABSTRACT REVIEWS

Patient advocate abstracts will be reviewed and selected by members of the SPGA Committee on the basis of the following criteria: novelty of the program, significance of the information, and clarity.

NOTIFICATION OF ABSTRACT STATUS

All individuals listed as abstract presenters will be notified of acceptance or rejection by email. Notices and instructions will be sent to the email address provided at the time of abstract submission. If an abstract is not selected for presentation, the presenter may request a full refund of the registration fee by contacting the AACR Meetings Department at [email protected].

PRESENTATION AND PUBLICATION

Abstract titles and authors (no data) will be posted on the AACR website before the meeting begins. Patient advocate poster presenters are required to present a physical poster.

REGISTRATION AND ACCOMMODATIONS

Individuals planning on presenting an abstract at this conference are encouraged to register and make a room reservation at the conference hotel as early as possible. If an abstract is not accepted for presentation at the conference, the presenter may request a full refund of the registration fee. REQUEST FOR WITHDRAWAL

Requests to withdraw regular abstracts will be accepted through February 9, 2024.  Withdrawal requests must be sent by email to [email protected]. Withdrawal requests must include the abstract control number and title as well as an explanation of the reason for withdrawal. Requests to edit or withdraw an abstract cannot be processed after the deadlines.
