AACR Using Snapchat at Annual Meeting 2017 to Increase Social Engagement

Guest post by Emil Lou, MD, PhD

Social media platforms have emerged and taken hold rapidly over the past decade. The evolution from Facebook to Twitter to Instagram (and many others) has given people of all ages opportunities and a voice in global conversations on all topics.

Organizations dedicated to the fight against cancer have all harnessed social media for increasing cancer awareness, updates in cancer research, clinical trials, and much more…and the AACR is leading the way.

At the 2017 Annual Meeting, the AACR is expanding its social media profile to include Snapchat and Instagram. New use of these platforms will expand the reach to new audiences, especially the next generation of cancer researchers.

Many undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers will be attending the meeting, not only learning about advances in cancer research but also presenting their own work. The AACR social media team will be there to document their involvement and interview winners of the Undergraduate Research Poster competition, along with many other cancer researchers, physicians, cancer survivors, and patient advocates of all ages.

It’s easy to follow the AACR on Snapchat. If you take a picture of the Snapcode below with your phone, simply save it to your camera roll and use that to find “theaacr” on Snapchat.

Continue to follow @AACR on Twitter and check out the #AACR17 hashtag for continuous updates throughout the Annual Meeting. You can also find the AACR on Facebook. No matter which platform you prefer, be sure to join the conversation!
