MICR Virtual Professional Advancement Session: Why Should I Hire You and Why Should I Retain You?

Among the most important aspects of professional advancement in biomedical research is the establishment of an independent research program.  There are numerous steps involved in this key crucial segment of career advancement. The first step beyond training is being hired into an academic faculty or a competitive open independent position and advancing towards promotion.  For instance, in academic research, among the most critical objectives towards this goal is successfully competing for an investigator-initiated R01 grant. Furthermore, sustaining excellence in scholarship is key to retention towards long-term professional success.  The MICR Professional Advancement Session will include a demonstration of how crowdsourcing can be used as a tool to identify mentors for R01 development.  Furthermore, a panel of experts from across various professional sectors will be convened to discuss the key attributes needed to successfully compete for positions and to help identify foundational factors to bolster a long-term career in biomedical research.
