In Memoriam: Mario Gosalvez

Mario Gosalvez, MD, emeritus member of the AACR, died February 15, 2014, at the age of 73. He had been an AACR member since 1976.

Born in Madrid in 1940, Gosalvez obtained a medical and surgical license (1963) and a full doctorate in medicine and surgery at the Complutense University of Madrid (1968) in Spain, while he also taught first year medical students biochemistry and physics for physicians (1964-1968).

From 1964 to 1970, he undertook his postdoctoral studies in France, Switzerland, Sweden, and the United States.

From 1970 to 2010, Gosalvez directed biochemical experimental research at the Puerta de Hierro Hospital, a clinic of the School of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Madrid, where he was professor of biochemistry and biophysics, molecular physiology, and pharmacology.

He also lectured on biophysics and molecular pharmacology to postgraduate students in the faculty of chemistry (1974-1994). Gosalvez received the National Award for Biochemical Research of Social Security in 1977 and again in 1979, and was elected vice president of the Spanish Association for Cancer Research in 1982.

Before his death, he devoted his time thinking and consulting in the field of advanced science searching for international funding, especially for his new therapy of cancer reversal by dual strategy.
