Lung Cancer Awareness Month 

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in the United States and worldwide. The AACR partners with a private family foundation for a series of lung-cancer oriented sessions held at the AACR Annual Meeting: the Dharma Master Jiantai Recent Advances in Lung Cancer Session, the Dharma Master Jiantai Symposium in Biomarkers, and the Dharma Master Jiantai Symposium in Targeted Therapy. Take advantage of our member-exclusive rates and learn more about the sessions.

National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month/World Pancreatic Cancer Day

November is National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. On November 19, the world recognizes Pancreatic Cancer Day. Pancreatic cancer is projected to become the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S. by 2030, behind lung cancer, according to data published in Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). In September 2021, the AACR Virtual Special Conference on Pancreatic Cancer was held. The meeting showcased the latest developments in pancreatic cancer research; spanning basic, translational, and clinical research areas. AACR Members receive discounted rates for all conferences. National Stomach Cancer Awareness Month   

The AACR recognizes November as National Stomach Cancer Awareness Month, or Gastric Cancer Awareness Month. Since 2014, the AACR has come together with Debbie’s Dream Foundation to offer research grants in the field of gastric cancer as an effort to encourage and support postdoctoral or clinical research fellows conducting gastric cancer research. AACR-Debbie’s Dream Foundation Career Development Award for Gastric Cancer Research is eligible to AACR members. Carcinoid Cancer Awareness Month 

Carcinoid tumors are rare, slow-growing cancers that can grow in several places throughout the body, but that usually start in the lining of the digestive tract and lungs. Symptoms of carcinoid cancer are vague and often don’t appear in the early stages. Carcinoid cancer is often diagnosed inadvertently during an X-ray for an unrelated reason. Become an AACR member and join us in the global conquest of cancer.

World Neuroendocrine Tumor Awareness Day (NET Cancer Day)

National STEM/STEAM Day (November 8, 2021) 

The AACR recognizes November 8 as National STEM/STEAM Day. On National STEM/STEAM Day, we focus on helping students advance in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art, and math. The AACR supports the education and training of the next generation of cancer researchers and provides free Student Membership and exclusive opportunities to high school, undergraduate, and postbaccalaureate students to engage in and gain exposure to the latest cancer research. Learn more about how the AACR supports the science education of the next generation of cancer researchers. Not a member? Join today!

National Hospice and Palliative Care Month 

November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. This month, we raise awareness about the benefits of hospice and palliative care. We also recognize the dedication and commitment of hospice professionals and volunteers who work every day to provide patients and their families with the highest level of quality medical care and who also provide comfort during the most difficult times in their lives. The AACR offers Affiliate membership to qualified individuals who are health professionals working in support of cancer and biomedical research, survivors and advocates who are members of organizations whose mission includes the advancement of cancer research, and educators or other professionals who are interested in and/or make substantial contributions to the cancer field.

The Great American Smokeout (November 18, 2021) 

The AACR recognized November 18 as the Great American Smokeout. On this day, the AACR encourages people to start their journey towards a smoke-free life and reduce their cancer risk. Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of premature mortality, killing more than five million people worldwide every year. The AACR Tobacco Products and Cancer Subcommittee was created to foster scientific and policy initiatives to reduce the incidence of disease and mortality due to tobacco use. Learn more about the AACR Tobacco Products and Cancer Subcommittee and what they are doing to reduce tobacco use.  Become an AACR member and join us in the global conquest of cancer.
